The organisation works in the socio-cultural development of the Congo and of Africa in general.  As a non political, non-profit organization, it encourages sustainable development through the love of work . It provides a space for growth and creativity for those who work there. The organisation is currently active in   Brazzaville (head office), Pointe-Noire, and Nkayi.

Réseau SIDA Afrique is based in the Congo and includes 230 institutional and individual members in 17 African francophone countries.

 Background to the Project

The countries involved in the project are all concerned with malaria, which continues to be one of the main causes of death as much for children as for adults. The media in the majority of African countries covers information of a more political nature than public health and other sectors of development. When health is mentioned the emphasis has been placed on AIDS and there is little mentioned on malaria.  Thus the main problems are:

  • A lack of articles or reports challenging or sounding the alarm on malaria in the media;
  • A lack of aptitude by the member organisations of the Africa AIDS Network to further a campaign strategy and mobilise resources for the battle against malaria;
  • An absence of accountability regarding the actions and commitments taken by African governments on the battle against malaria;
  • An absence of accessible information on malaria to different parties involved such as the Parliamentarians and the private sector.

Objectives of the Project

The project aims to strengthen the campaign actions of the 10 member organisations of Réseau SIDA Afrique in 10 African countries in the battle against malaria; and to create a partnership between the press and these member organisations of Réseau SIDA Afrique to inform those parties involved on the situation in the battle against malaria in 10 countries of Africa.

Launch of the Project

The project was launched in November 2007 in Congo-Brazzaville. Over 30 people representing civil society organisations, the media, and WHO were present.

The launche was followed by a visit to a school where pupils had prepared some activities and to a net treatment facility in a clinic.
