AFF began the project by holding sessions to develop advocacy briefs for use across their objectives. In regard to objective 1 they secured a meeting with the secretariat of PMG-MAN in March 2008 and then after that held individual meetings with PMG-MAN members to present to them the case for implementing the suggested pilot project. The meetings were successful in terms of building relationships, and gaining further contacts for follow up. The novel objectives of the project were generally acceptable to, and received endorsement from the companies engaged. The project interventions reached 5 out of the targeted 10 PMG-MAN companies in the timeframe of the grant.

In regard to Objective 2 AFF succeeded in presenting the project to 5 RBM product merchants and various commercial distributors.  The overall response was positive with AFF approaching 5 out of the targeted 10 RBM commodity merchants (marketers of ITNs/LLINs and IRS). As there was no umbrella organisation for ITN dealers/merchants AFF approached dealers individually. Specific successes included AFF establishing a link between Patem Global Nig Ltd who began to supply long lasting insecticidal treated nets (LLINs) to Life Link Organization and Health Matter Inc based on AFF introduction.

In regard to objective 3 AFF succeeded in holding meetings with the leadership of Human Rights Information Network (HURINET), the Malaria Summit Group (MSG)  and many other networks, in order to inform them about the need for malaria advocacy.  These links led to joint activities around World Malaria Day 2009 partnership as well the opportunity for AFF to participate at the Lagos RBM Partners Forum and to host the 3rd National Malaria Summit in November 2008.

AFF's main activity under objective 3 was the organisation of a 5 day malaria, advocacy training session in May 2008 where a total of 35 people representing 28 CSOs were trained (including university personnel, media UN agency officials and legislators as well as Ministry of Health, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation).. The training resulted in further partnerships and through facilitating capacity enhancement the project has made a remarkable impact on CSOs networks it has come into contact with.

The achievements of this project need to be sustained, reinforced and consolidated, with interventions scaled up to broaden both the scope and impact.
